IRATA Certification
Our abseiling painters are trained and assessed to IRATA standards – the international benchmark for rope access work.
IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) certification operates across three levels:
- Level 1 – Technician: trained in rope access techniques and rescue response
- Level 2 – Technician: supervises Level 1 workers and carries out rescues
- Level 3 – Supervisor: full site responsibility, risk assessment and rescue management
All rope access painting is carried out to AS/NZS 4488 and Queensland WHS regulations. Every Amalgamated job is supervised by an IRATA Level 3 Supervisor, and competency is independently assessed – not self-certified.

What is rope access / abseil painting?
Rope access and abseiling painting use rigging systems anchored to the roof to access building facades without scaffolding or EWPs. Abseiling painters descend and ascend on ropes, carrying out painting and surface preparation work as they go.
Are your abseiling painters IRATA certified?
Yes. All Amalgamated rope access painters hold current IRATA certification – assessed at Level 1, 2 or 3 depending on their role. Every site is supervised by an IRATA Level 3 Supervisor.
Is rope access painting safe?
Carried out to IRATA standards and Queensland WHS regulations, rope access has a strong safety record across construction and industrial sectors. All technicians are trained in rescue procedures, and every job follows a site-specific risk assessment.
When is scaffolding a better option?
Scaffolding suits full-building repaints where access is large, sustained and requires equipment that can't be managed on rope. Our estimators will recommend whichever method makes the most sense for the scope.
Can you carry out repairs from ropes, not just painting?
Yes. Our rope access team regularly handles crack repairs, sealant replacement, render patching and abseil painting refurbishment work alongside painting – all in one mobilisation.
