PAINTING // REMEDIAL BUILDING // REPAIRS
Amalgamated Group has been working as commercial painters for schools, universities and childcare facilities across Queensland since 1978.
Griffith University, QUT, Marsden High School and St Benedicts are among the education providers that trust us with large-scale painting and remedial building programs – along with the compliance, scheduling and product requirements that come with working in an active learning environment.
TRUSTED BY THE BEST SINCE 1978
QUT - KELVIN GROVE
Peter Stegman | Project Coordinator
The quality of work was great please thank all members of your staff for going above the scope and providing a good finish."
Our school painting contractors understand what education sector work demands: Blue Card compliance, scheduling around term dates, low-VOC systems for occupied spaces, and project management that doesn't interrupt learning.
School Painting Contractors
As school painting contractors working across South East Queensland, we handle everything from a single-building repaint during the summer holidays to multi-stage programs across an entire campus. Our school painting work covers:
- Classrooms, corridors and common areas
- Gymnasiums and sports halls
- Administration blocks and staffrooms
- Covered outdoor areas, walkways and fencing
- Specialist areas including science labs and technology spaces
We work alongside school facilities managers and business managers to schedule work around the Queensland school calendar – prioritising holiday breaks for interior spaces and using term-time for exterior areas where the impact on learning is minimal.
University Painting Contractors
University campuses require a different scale of planning. Large grounds, multiple building types, partially occupied buildings during semester and the need to stage works across multiple years all factor into how we run a university painting program.
As university painting contractors for Griffith University and QUT, we've delivered interior and exterior repaints for lecture theatres, student precincts and administration buildings – alongside high-rise painting on multi-storey campus blocks using rope access or elevated access as required. Works continue across semester with staging plans that minimise disruption to students and staff.

Childcare and Early Learning Facilities
Childcare and early learning centres sit at the most compliance-intensive end of education sector work. Product selection matters more here than anywhere else – children spend extended hours in enclosed spaces, and indoor air quality is a genuine concern.
Our childcare painting work uses low-VOC, water-based Dulux interior systems throughout, with scheduling arranged around operating hours to keep disruption to a minimum. Where painting overlaps with partial occupation, we use products rated for fast reoccupancy – typically safe for re-entry within four to eight hours of application.
Term-Time and Holiday Scheduling
The Queensland school calendar creates predictable painting windows. We plan programs around the four-term year so work starts on day one of each break rather than spending the first week organising access.
- Summer holidays (December–January): The primary window for full interior repaints, allowing adequate drying and ventilation time before students return
- Easter break (April): Suitable for targeted classroom and corridor work
- Winter holidays (July): Well suited to exterior work and surface preparation ahead of the second half of the year
- September break: Best used for remedial repairs, localised touch-ups and condition inspections
Quoting in Term 3 and confirming the program before the year ends means nothing falls through the gap between procurement and the summer break.
Blue Card Compliance and WHS
Queensland's Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act requires Blue Card compliance for workers in regulated child-related environments. Requirements vary depending on the type of facility, hours of operation and whether children are present during works.
Amalgamated manages Blue Card compliance requirements for education sector sites and ensures our team holds the appropriate screening before commencing work on any school, university or childcare site.
Our standard compliance documentation for school and university painting projects includes:
- Blue Card screening as required by the facility and site conditions
- Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for all work types on site
- Site-specific induction records and sign-on processes
- QBCC contractor licensing
- Current public liability and workers' compensation insurance
We work alongside school WHS coordinators and facilities managers to meet site-specific access requirements before the job starts.
Low-VOC and Low-Odour Systems
Painting in schools and universities – whether occupied or recently vacated – requires products that don't off-gas into classrooms, corridors or common areas. Amalgamated specifies low-VOC, water-based Dulux interior systems for all education sector work.
Low-VOC formulations reduce airborne chemical emissions significantly, which matters when rooms need to be back in use within a day or two of completion. They also reduce the risk of headaches and respiratory irritation for students and staff returning to freshly painted spaces.
For exterior work and high-wear surfaces, we select Dulux and Taubmans systems matched to the substrate and exposure conditions – the same specification approach behind all our commercial painting work across Queensland.
What We Cover on Education Sites
Beyond painting, Amalgamated's in-house team handles the full scope of building maintenance for education providers:
- Interior and exterior painting – full repaints and touch-up programs
- Decorative finishes and feature wall treatments
- Anti-graffiti coatings for high-exposure areas
- Concrete rectification and remedial building and waterproofing
- Balcony and walkway waterproofing
- Floor coverings, tiling and mastic programs
- Window replacement and cladding
All work is managed in-house under one contract, with one project manager from first inspection to sign-off.

FAQs
Do you work as commercial painters for schools across all of Queensland?
Yes. We service schools, universities and childcare facilities across South East Queensland, including Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. Our scheduling is built around the Queensland school calendar.
How do you manage Blue Card compliance on school sites?
Amalgamated manages Blue Card screening as required by each facility's site conditions and the relevant Queensland legislation. We confirm compliance requirements with the school or facility before commencing and ensure documentation is in place before work starts.
Can painting be done during term time?
Exterior painting and work in unoccupied areas can often be carried out during term time with minimal disruption. Interior work in active classrooms is best scheduled during holiday breaks. We'll advise on the most practical staging for your specific facility.
What products do you use in classrooms and childcare spaces?
We use low-VOC, water-based Dulux interior systems for all education sector painting. These reduce airborne chemical emissions and allow faster reoccupancy – typically four to eight hours after application.
Can you handle remedial work as well as painting?
Yes. Our in-house team covers concrete rectification, waterproofing, crack repairs and surface preparation alongside painting – all under one contract.
